Swedish Gambling Revenue Results in Q2

Commercial online gambling, including Svenska Spel, which dominates the Swedish market, was the primary contributor to this growth. However, some sectors experienced a decline.

Key figures for the quarter include:

• SEK4.57bn commercial online gambling (+9.2%);
• SEK1.29bn state-owned lotteries and land-based slot machines (-7.5%);
• SEK893m not-for-profit games and national raffles (-0.3%);
• SEK56m restaurant casinos (+5.7%);
• SEK52m community entertainment and bingo (unchanged).

Spelinspektionen also reported Casino Cosmopol’s dramatic 73.8% drop in profits, to just SEK33m. This sharp decrease follows the closure of the company’s halls in Gothenburg and Malmö in February due to unprofitability.

The Stockholm branch is the last remaining venue. The government has since proposed the complete closure of Casino Cosmopol, as it no longer fulfils its original goal.

Among other important statistics is the number of punters registered within Sweden's self-exclusion system. The figure rose by 1.7% in comparison to the preceding quarter. By the end of Q2, around 112,000 individuals were enlisted.
